There are thousands of studies on the Mediterranean diet showing benefits for everything from arthritis to dementia, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, cancer and longevity. Doctors and dietitians are telling their patients to eat the Mediterranean Diet, but there seems to be some misconceptions and lack of education about what the diet really is.

22 countries border the mediterranean.
the diet has never been clearly defined.
I have no idea what you put in the potatoes that you’re calling horta
Thank you so much for this video. Very instructive.
I just switched to organic foods and grass fed, grass finished meats. What a huge difference in quality, taste and texture of the food. Aldi and Kroger sell organic reasonably.
lovely family
“Dirt made my lunch”? I’m sorry but I am a little confused! Is this song supposed to be a form of thanks/grace before the meal? If so are you purposely not teaching your daughter to give credit to God the “maker of DIRT”
Not trying to tell you what to believe or how to raise your child…but shouldn’t we give credit to the one who provided such nurturing foods?
Thumbs -down from me for calling God ‘dirt"
Very interesting video I’m glad I tuned in
olives, got it.
This is what I ate yesterday in Spain (went from 140lbs to 125lbs).
Breakfast: toasted baguette (leftover from last night’s dinner) with butter and strawberry jam. Espresso with whole milk.
Lunch: lentils for a first dish, beef with fried potatoes in olive oil. Had a beer with lunch and a mandarin orange for dessert.
Dinner: sliced tomato with canned tuna on top, drizzled with olive oil and a pinch of salt, a slice of baguette on the side.
Sit down to eat your meals, include walks around your neighborhood. Eat with people who make you laugh.
Ive been from one end of the spectrum to the other with all these "fad" diets over the years, Atkins, Keto, Paleo, South Beach, Mediterranean, Low fat, low carb, etc.
The conclusion I’ve come to? We reach for these diets because our lifestyles carry us from a bed to a driver’s seat, to an office chair, back home to a couch, and a dinner table everyday. We’re GLUTTONS that can’t stop shoving food in our faces. These diets all offer us some way to stuff our faces and lose weight.
The "secret" in the "Mediterranean" and Asian countries? Way less eating/portions/snacking/caloric intake, and more moving around.
I feel like i would still br hungry after eating that dinner. Like I could eat that entire meal to myself LOL
Regarding wine, I am wondering if they drink the local wine or wine that they’ve made themselves which has minimal intervention and no added strange chemicals? I’ve begun buying no intervention wines and notice a difference having them.
Taters, bread, and rice- I can do this.
Informative.
My wife and I just switched from the ketogenetic diet to the Mediterranean diet. After years of keto and losing over 25 lbs, we felt as if we were missing out on a lot of food we weren’t able to eat. Let me tell you, not only have I escaped my plateu but I can honestly say that I’ve never been so satisfied in my life. The food we eat now is so much more healthier and tastier than I could have ever imagined. Thanks for your vids, it have been transformative!
In America bread is usually terrible for you. You need to learn how to make your own bread and it can be time consuming especially if you are making sourdough bread. It’s not easy but it’s doable. America makes it hard for their citizens to lose weight and stay healthy but you have to be unlike the others and be strong to eat the proper nutrition. I say eat salads, chicken that is Pasteur raised, beans that are organic, rice and pasta but with veggies. Quality matters, not every salad and veggie are made equal, so choose organic when you can, this can be expensive.
The healthiest, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, heart-protective, low-calorie plant-based naturally hydrating food that is by definition a superfood due to its high nutritional values, phytochemicals and antioxidants and irreplaceable in times and places of high temperatures and long summers. Mediterranean food abounds with very most healthy and irreplaceable soups, salads, etc. It is sinless and the healthiest food that is a gift to us directly from nature. Thanks to God for this food.
Most expensive thing in the Mediterranean diet is QUALITY extra virgin olive oil. The kind I get is damn near $30 but I stretch it as far as I can. I’d rather spend money on that than heart disease medication.
I can’t lie to you, when you and your family sang your dirt made my lunch song I couldn’t help but shed some tears of joy. Growing up we ate mostly frozen foods, and all went to our separate quarters to eat and watch T.V. Watching your family not only eat a healthy meal together, but also show gratitude to the earth that made it was so inspiring. I’m currently 24, but when I think about my future life I hope to one day have the same for my family. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
I have high blood pressure high cholesterol and a vitamin D deficiency. I started counting calories about a week ago and I’ve been struggling to stay in a deficit. However, this is my second day on Mediterranean and now I’m eating more than enough food to stay satisfied I have plenty of calories left in the budget to meet my deficit goal and even my sodium is down to an acceptable level. This diet is the bomb. I might be able to stick with this one.
Dirt you made my launch ❤ what a phrase ❤
That clip at 2:22 is not Greece. That is in Puglia, Italy in the town my dad’s family is from. It’s called "Alberobello"
I also want to add, I’ve been diagnosed with arthritis many years ago, but now that I’m in my early 60s it is getting very Painful.
I am meeting with the dietitian next week, she had mentioned the Mediterranean diet, I hope there is ways where I can understand how to prepare meals and lead a more pain-free life. Thank you for your insights!
What would’ve the traditional Mediterranean diet have been before the introduction of "new world" foods such as potatoes and tomatoes?
This is such a helpful video, especially for understanding the cultural and lifestyle context behind the diet—it’s more than just the food! I’m inspired to incorporate more of these principles into my daily life, focusing on fresh ingredients and mindful eating.
Lmao, I’m Greek but for some reason, this got me intrigued as if I wasn’t eating like this literally every day 😂
Keep in mind that the diet is not the only part of unlocking our longevity. You *have* to pair it with a lot of movement and be stress-free. We have a saying that is «Σιγά, σιγά» which translates to "slowly, slowly". If you live fast, you’ll die young, so…you Americans need to learn how to live slow 😉
I lived in Europe for 5 years and spent my summers in Spain. Their way of eating and their lifestyle is much better than what we have in America. It didnt surprise me that they live longer there.
I thought cooking olive oil at high heat was toxic?
Aww, She is so cute.
Thank you
not many people can afford a cup of evol per day
Your pear shaped body is not very convincing for this diet
Dont drink alcohol, smoke pot. Its healthier 😅
Awwww Now I’m totally on board with this diet because of that little interaction 😊
Alcohol, yes even wine poisons every cell in the human body. All 37 trillion of them. Fact
*"Your daughter is absolutely adorable, like an angel from heaven! 😍 My husband has prediabetes, and he’s looking to switch to this diet. I work in a grocery store, so this is perfect for us! Thanks for sharing! ❤"*
I can’t do potatoes or high carbs.. I’m t2d.
This video is a great reminder that the Mediterranean diet isn’t just about *what* you eat, but *how* you eat—savoring fresh, whole foods with loved ones in a relaxed environment. It’s inspiring to see a lifestyle that prioritizes both health and joy. Thanks for sharing your family’s traditions!
Are Japanese not the healthiest? Always seem to live the longest life
"Dirt you made my lunch?"… is there something I’m missing?
I just turned 45 last week. If I switch to this diet now, can I benefit from it, or is it too late? 7 months ago I developed IBS. I’m seeking answers before I reach the Philippines next week to start my “2nd life”. Leaving the USA was my first priority.
Mediterranean here. We don’t eat like this. Our secret? No work 😂😂😂
Best thing I ever did was reading the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, after applying the knowledge I got from the book I feel like the cellulite is magically disappearing from my body
Thank you
Thank for the info!
I want to point out to folks, that you do not need to eat Greek-style Mediterranean food. The Mediterranean is vast and encompasses many cultures and countries.
The Mediterranean region includes countries like Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and parts of the Balkan region like Albania, Croatia, and Montenegro, encompassing diverse cultures including the Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, Levantine (including Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian), Egyptian, Maghrebi (North African), and Ottoman influences; all sharing culinary and cultural similarities due to their proximity to the Mediterranean Sea.
So you have so much to choose from! Just choose the traditional diet, not the Western-imported diet. 😅
This is great information. At the start of the new year, I’m going on a Mediterranean and Semi Vegetarian diet. I badly need to lose weight.
You are an Alton Brown look alike
Thank you for this recipe, from Australia.
The bread there is DIFFERENT than the gar bage bread in the USA
